Hope for a Broken Heart and Spirit
“The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a
contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.” (Psalm 51:17)
According to Dr. McNair Wilson; “Perhaps the greatest
psychological, spiritual and medical need that all people have is the need for
hope.” (Hope for Each Day)
A broken heart can be caused by:
· Desperate
need of love
· Sin
and stupidity
· We have
a righteous indignation
· Rejection
· Disappointment
· Uncontrolled
circumstances and problems
· Unanswered
prayers, the way we wanted it to be…
· Broken
for the lost world, etc.
One of the blessings of Christians is the assurance that God knows
our hearts and He knows what’s best for us. We just have to trust His heart.
The song “Trust His heart…” is a good encouragement when our hearts are broken
due to unexplained circumstances in life.
Notice the encouraging words from the Psalmists; “18- The LORD is
nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite
spirit. 19- The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth
such as be of a contrite spirit.” (Psalm 34:18- 19 KJV)

Jesus, the Solid Rock
“18-Behold, the eye of the
LORD is upon them that fear him, upon them that hope in his mercy; 22- Let thy mercy, O LORD, be upon us, according as we hope
in thee.” 5- “For thou art my hope, O Lord
GOD: thou art my trust from my youth. 14- But
I will hope continually, and will yet praise thee more and more.” (Psalm
33:18, 22; 71:5, 14 KJV)
The hope of eternal life… “For
in God do I hope”. The grace, mercy, love and the peace
of the Lord Jesus Christ were the components or the reasons that made the hope
of eternal life so easy to believe in. We have a promised to discover and we
can be certain of what we have in Christ Jesus our Lord. This is God’s general
blessing for the lost world. We can have God’s salvation through the death, burial
and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ. But someone has to decide to believe
in and to receive that promised by faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. You can’t
have that life unless you take a step of faith. An old hymn says; “My
hope is built on nothing less, Than Jesus’ blood and righteousness. I dare not
trust the sweetest frame, but wholly trust in Jesus’ Name. On Christ the solid
Rock I stand, all other ground is sinking sand; all other ground is sinking
