The old adage ; "You get what you deserve" Or "You deserve what you get..." That's how I interpret the verse. We let people hit us with either deserving or undeserving words based on our actions or reactions. Will you let someone whip you with unpleasant words or words of commendation? May our words be acceptable in His sight.- 1 Kings 12:11 KJV And now whereas my father did lade you with a heavy yoke, I will add to your yoke: my father hath chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.

The Bible says; 2 Corinthians 3:1 KJV
