Mi Daily Devotion

Matthew 5:14- 16) “Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. 15- Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. 16- Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.”
We used to run a Pre- school in our church back in Subic, Philippines. I remember singing with the children our theme song. “This Little Light of Mine”- “This little light of mine, I'm gonna let it shine. This little light of mine, I'm gonna let it shine. This little light of mine, I'm gonna let it shine…, Hide it under a bushel? No! I'm gonna let it shine, Hide it under a bushel? No! I'm gonna let it shine, Hide it under a bushel? No! I'm gonna let it shine…” What’s the difference between “the light” that Matthew was talking about when he said, “Ye are the light of the world…” with “the Light” that John was talking about when he said: The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe…” (John 1:7- 9) We are the “light” of the world with a small “l” but Jesus is the “Light” of the world with a Big “L”. We are like a lamp or a candle which covers or lights a certain scope. But Jesus is the Light of the whole wide world. In every corner of the world, every nation and tongue and at anytime and in every situations- He is your Light!  This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.” (I John 1:5)
