THE HEART OF A PASTOR
(A Minister’s Life from A to Z)
(Hebrews 13:7) “Remember them which have the rule over you, who have spoken unto you the word of God: whose faith follow, considering theend of their conversation.”
A pastor could be a husband, a father, a friend and sometimes an enemy to others. A pastor could also be a brother, a manager and a broken hearted man. He is a man of God who is a blessing to others. A pastor is a counselor, a man of comfort, a man that you can count on, a considerate man, and a man full of courage. He always stand firm on his conviction and in the leading of the Holy Spirit. He develops leaders, and a help to the disturbed, the discouraged and the depressed. A pastor is an encourager. He should be an eloquent speaker, and an executor. A pastor is a facilitator. He is one of the few good men, a fellow soldier, our fellowmen, and a fellow servant. He is always on the "GO", and a great man of God. A great communicator, and a goal setter. A pastor's heart is in his home, helping the needy, and praying for the healing of the sick. A pastor's attitude should not be about "I" but about God and others. He is an imitator and he should be an inspiration to others. He gives proper instructions for the kingdom.
Jesus is Just; therefore a pastor must be just, and must have sound judgment. He must be focus on his job or ministry. It is required for a pastor to be knowledgeable, to know what is best for his church, for his people and for the honor and glory of the King of kings. A pastor's love should be on his Lord, his life must be dedicated for the lost souls. He must in line with what God wants for him to do as God's minister. He must remember that he is a man of God and a minister of the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. He carries the mark of the Lord Jesus Christ. He must be a minister with honor and humility. (Hebrews
13:17- 18) “17- Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you. 18- Pray for us: for we trust we have a good conscience, in all things willing to live honestly.”
A pastor is always neutral in his dealings with his people. He should not think or say; "It could never be done" neither be a man with negative aspects in life. He is willing to offer his best for the master's use, and he is a man who is open to new ideas. A man of God who perseveres..., he keeps on pressing on... A man of God who desires to please his Lord. He is a servant of God who never questions the Word of God, the will of God and the works of God. A man of God who always quotes the Word of God in all that he does. He learned to be quite. He resists the devil and that which is evil. He help restores those who have fallen from God’s grace. He has a heart for revival, for regeneration of the lost world. He shows compassion, he depend on the Lord his God in everything. His success is because of what God did in him and through him. He trust the Lord, teaches the truth, he is truthful and faithful to God. He is not afraid to take the step of faith as the team leader. Unity is his passion and desire. He gives his undivided attention for the sake of Christ. He uses his talents, treasures and time for the Lord.
Victory is on his side. He is a visionary and he values life, his family and spiritual things. Winning for God and working for God is his focus. Worldly pleasure is not on his list, and he is willing to wait on God's time. Wine, womanizing, worldly wealth and wickedness are out of his line. A pastor should live in love, integrity and with dignity in his public life; it is also required of him to live a holy life and in righteousness in private. X-rated movies, x-rated magazines, x- rated - shows and any x-rated materials in the internet are something that he avoids. He has a heart for the young people, young at hearts, and he yearns to love every individual. His yoke is the Lord's yoke. And his years are full of wisdom.
A pastor must not waste his time in the service of the King. He must learn to trust God even in a zigzag road or in a rough road. He tried to be zealous in his relationship with God and man. And as a pastor, he is marching to Zion. In God's grace and by God's grace: your pastor will serve you in spite of financial difficulties. He will love you and preach God's Word in spite of negative remarks of his people. He will be there for you in spite of your weakness, failure, unfaithfulness to God and in the church. He needs your prayer, your financial support, your understanding when things are not going well in your church. And most of all- he’s like you with feelings and emotion. He has spiritual downfall, failures, and he is hurting. He is a needy person and he is going through tough times like you do. He needs God's grace, God's mercy and he needs YOU! In (Hebrews
13:24) “Salute all them that have the rule over you, and all the saints. They of Italy salute you.” The Bible says in (Hebrews
13:20-21) “20- Now the God of peace, that brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, that great shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant, 21- Make you perfect in every good work to do his will, working in you that which is well pleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ; to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen.”
Did you say “Thank You” to your pastor? Do you appreciate your pastor in spite of…or in the midst of…? This month is “Pastors Appreciation” month. Remember your pastor and pray for him! Do not criticize, gossip or say slanderous things about your pastor and his family; but pray for them, support them, and stand with them (except for immortality and unbiblical doctrinal issues), because he is your pastor. - By Ely Roque Sagansay
