THE SACRIFICE OF A FATHER
(Genesis 22:2- 3) 2- “And he said, Take now thy son, thine only son Isaac, whom thou lovest, and get thee into the land of Moriah; and offer him there for a burnt offering upon one of the mountains which I will tell thee of. 3- And Abraham rose up early in the morning, and saddled his ass, and took two of his young men with him, and Isaac his son, and clave the wood for the burnt offering, and rose up, and went unto the place of which God had told him.”
The commands of God: 1- In Verse 2- "Take thy son…” not thy bullocks and thy lambs or other animals that was available at the time…
2- Again in Verse 2- “thine only son Isaac, whom thou lovest,” If you notice the 2 important words: “only” and “lovest” It’s hard for a father to give up something or someone if those words are involved. It would not be easy to give up your only son and the one you love the most. But God gave us His one and only Son. (John 3:16) “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” 3- “and get thee into the land of Moriah…” 4- “and offer him there for a burnt offering…”
God the Father sacrificed His Son on the Cross for the remission of our sins. Abraham’s sacrifice was a picture of what God will do to us through the death of His Son. It is right and biblical if we learn to sacrifice for our family as a father and a husband.
(Romans 8:32) “He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?”
