Jesus is a Friend of Sinners

“21- Evil pursueth sinners: but to the righteous good shall be repayed." (Proverbs 13:21 KJV)

The Philippine national hero Dr. Jose Rizal once said; "Tell me who your friends are, and I'll tell you who you are". Jesus is a friend of sinners but is He a sinner? No!, Jesus is holy and He is God. Proverbs thirteen verse twenty tells us of the influence of those who are full of wisdom. Apostle James said; “If you lack wisdom ask from God…” But it also show us the consequence or the opposite side of it. In verse 21 it speaks of  what will happen to those who lives in sin, and the blessing for those who lives a righteous life in God.

The Bible says; "20- He that walketh with wise men shall be wise: but a companion of fools shall be destroyed." (Proverbs 13:20 KJV)

We need inspiration from the Lord and the Holy Spirit of God.

“But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.” (John 14: 26 KJV)

We should be inspired by the Holy Spirit of God. We need inspiration from the Word of God. The book of Psalms and the book of John are one of the books in the Bible that I read when I’m discourage or just want to be encourage. That’s why we really need to read our Bible. We need inspiration from the pastors or ministers. Be inspired by the life of the servants of God. Be inspired by the life and dedication of the missionaries all over the world. Be inspired of what God is doing in the life of His people. Be inspired by the Service of His servants in the field.

I love the Words of the Lord Jesus Christ which is a comfort to every believer. Jesus said; “But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me.” (John 15: 26 KJV)

God Cannot Be Compared

"To whom then will ye liken God? or what likeness will ye compare unto him?" (Isaiah 40:18 KJV)

God is incomparable in His power, in His majesty, in His wisdom and knowledge, and He is incomparable in His love. But the greatest thing about God and His dealings with sinful men is His love and forgiveness. It has no limit and boundary.

"Who is a God like unto thee, that pardoneth iniquity, and passeth by the transgression of the remnant of his heritage? he retaineth not his anger for ever, because he delighteth in mercy." (Micah 7:18 KJV)

We Need Passion... Today!

And saying, Sirs, why do ye these things? We also are men of like passions with you, and preach unto you that ye should turn from these vanities unto the living God, which made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and all things that are therein:” (Acts 14:15 KJV)

·       To Abraham, his passion was when he obeyed the Lord’s voice to sacrifice his son Isaac in Mount Moriah. (Genesis 22)
·       To Daniel, it was his desire to pray and to stand for the truth, and to be a testimony in the kingdom. (Daniel 1- 3)
·       To Paul, his passion was to be a witness to the Jew first and also to the Greeks. No wonder Paul said, “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.” (Romans 1:16 KJV)
·       To David, His passion was to kill the bear, the lions, and the giant Goliath. His passion was to do the cause of God. David said in I Samuel 17: 29 “Is there not a cause?” David’s passion was his desire to do the cause of God and for God. His passion was to bring honor to name of God by killing the giant Goliath who defies God.

As a pastor, I have my own personal passion. My passion is to see people coming to know Christ as their Lord and Savior. My passion is to see His saints grow in the Lord. My passion is to see our youth being passionate in music, in the Word of God, in the ministry and in mission. My passion for my family was for them to get saved, to know the Lord as their Lord and Savior.

Do you have passion?

What is your passion?

The Priority of the Church- Mission

“10- For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.” (Luke 19:10 KJV)

The priorities of the church of the Lord our God that was bought by the blood of the Lamb or mission organizations are salvation for the lost within our territory, and mission work outside of our territory. Our priority is to tell them the truth of the Word of God, and the salvation through Christ. It’s not about the process of church membership. You may take them to church but if you did not keep them out of hell, then everything about spiritual things regarding your friends and love ones would be a failure. The command is for us to “Go”, but we can give, help, support, and send out missionaries.

“But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.” (Acts 1:8 KJV)

"You Sacrifice the Approval of God..."

“57- And it came to pass, that, as they went in the way, a certain man said unto him, Lord, I will follow thee whithersoever thou goest. 58- And Jesus said unto him, Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head. 62- And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plow, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.” (Luke 9:57- 58; 62)

The prince of preacher Charles Haddon Spurgeon said; “If you only serve for the applause of men, you sacrifice the approval of God. As Christ’s followers, we should not be surprised if the service we render to others in Jesus’ name is unappreciated or even spurned.” Keep serving the Lord in spite of… and in the midst of… whether you have blessings or trials. (II Corinthians 8:1)

An old hymn says; “Living for Jesus Who died in my place,
Bearing on Calvary my sin and disgrace;
Such love constrains me to answer His call,
Follow His leading and give Him my all.”

Cute or Acute? (Acronym)

While I was walking at the mall and getting myself some exercise, I saw a shirt with an acronym "Detroit" printed on it. It made me think of the word “CUTE”, and that’s how I came up with this devotional…

C- Christ Centered. “4- Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me. 5- I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.” (John 15:4- 5 KJV)

U- United in Christ. “1- Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!” (Psalm 133:1 KJV)

T- Team Work. “18- And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him.” (Genesis 2:18 KJV)

E- Enlarge Your Ministry. “2- Enlarge the place of thy tent, and let them stretch forth the curtains of thine habitations: spare not, lengthen thy cords, and strengthen thy stakes;” (Isaiah 54:2 KJV)

Prayer Has No Limitation...And with One Direction- God

“And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14- If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it.” (John 14:13- 14 KJV)

Prayer has its scope - wide scope. It has different method, different type, different way. It has it's way of expression and different doctrine to every religion. It has no limitation but it must have one direction- God. It can be done anywhere, and anytime; but it must be ushered to glory and unto the throne of grace. In the book of Hebrews it says;"Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need." (Hebrews 4:16 KJV)

You cannot exercise prayer without the mind set of knowing or recognizing the Supreme being. But to Christians- it is praying "In Jesus Name". When was the last time you pray and prayed earnestly? Apostle Paul wrote; "Pray without ceasing." (I Thessalonians 5:17 KJV)

Prosperity- God's Way

(Joshua 1:8 - 9 KJV)
8- This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success. 9- Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.”

It is very obvious that (Joshua 1:1- 9) was talking about the promised of success and prosperity. We have here:
1- The Consistency of the Instructions. God was consistent in His command to the Israelites.
2- The Clarity of the Instructions. God made it clear to Joshua and He gave them a very clear instructions.

3- The Continuity of the Instructions. God have the same instructions to every believer all over the world and to every generation. “Be strong and of a good courage…” And we must read, meditate and live the Word of God.

Serving the Lord

“19- Serving the Lord with all humility of mind, and with many tears, and temptations, which befell me by the lying in wait of the Jews: 20- And how I kept back nothing that was profitable unto you, but have showed you, and have taught you publicly, and from house to house, 21- Testifying both to the Jews, and also to the Greeks, repentance toward God, and faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ.” (Acts 20:19- 21 KJV)

I like this beautiful hymn:
I am happy in the service of the King. I am happy, O so happy! I have peace and joy that nothing else can bring. In the service of the King;
In the service of the King; every talent I will bring. I have peace and joy and blessing; in the service of the King.
I am happy in the service of the King. I am happy, O so happy! Through the sunshine and the shadow I can sing, in the service of the King.” (Alfred Ackley-1912)

Here are some of the benefits in serving the Lord “And ye shall serve the LORD your God, and he shall bless thy bread, and thy water; and I will take sickness away from the midst of thee.” (Exodus 23:25 KJV)  “And now, Israel, what doth the LORD thy God require of thee, but to fear the LORD thy God, to walk in all his ways, and to love him, and to serve the LORD thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul,” (Deuteronomy 10:12 KJV) Serving God is not an option for Christians; it is our duty to do our best for God.

Back-biting at Someone's Dignity and Integrity?

“5- Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth! 6- And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell.” (James 3:5- 6 KJV)

The reasons why people back-bite you, use slanderous, and defamatory remarks against you because they're behind you. They might be jealous of you. They may want to get ahead of you. They don't want to stand before you or follow your steps. They may want you down by biting at your dignity and integrity. My assumption could be true, but if it sounds judgmental to you; the Lord be the Judge because someone may have been going through unusual predicament due to backbiting.

You have to get used with gossip because if you're not used to it; the devil will use it against you, and use it to destroy and distract you. The tongue is hidden in our mouth, so as the garbage in our hearts and minds. Don't let your tongue be an instrument of Satan for conflict and division at church, at home or in an organization. Let Jesus always be the subject or center of our casual conversations.

Apostle James wrote; “8- But the tongue can no man tame; it is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. 9- Therewith bless we God, even the Father; and therewith curse we men, which are made after the similitude of God.”  (James 3:8- 9 KJV)

How Do You Express Your Love for God?

“Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another; and so much more, as ye see the day approaching.” (Hebrews 10:25 KJV)

We express our love for God when we worship Him. We love God, we desire His presence, and we give reverence to His holy name. Worship is expressed in many forms, in different ways. It is an expression from our heart, in our body, and in our mind. If you love God, you will not be ashamed of Him. You express your love to God in as many ways as possible. It could be in giving or good stewardship, in songs of praises, and in our sacrifices.

The Bible says; “Love the Lord your God with all your soul, and with all your mind and with all your strength.” (Mark 12:30 KJV) “This is love for God: to obey his commands, And his commands are not burdensome,” (I John 5:3 KJV)

We Have Burdens to Bear

(Psalm 34:17- 19 KJV) “17- The righteous cry and the LORD heareth and delivereth them out of all their troubles. 18- The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit. 19- Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the LORD delivereth him out of them all.”

God will give us good burdens, and God glorifying burdens, but Satan will do the opposite. Satan will give us burdens to carry. It could be physical burdens, emotional burdens, and to some could be spiritual burdens. Others, they struggle with financial burdens in life. And the sad thing is that we become in bondage of our own burdens and sin. In (I Peter 5:7 KJV) it says; “Casting all your care upon him; for hecareth for you.” The good thing is… we don’t have to be in bondage of anything and by anyone, but of the Lord Jesus Christ; because in Him we have freedom. When my children Eliezer, JR, and Eliel Lyn were little, they used to sing this song:
Cares Chorus…

I cast all my cares upon You
I lay all of my burdens down at Your feet
And anytime that I don't know what to do
I will cast all my cares upon You.”

"Why are Ye Fearful, O Ye of Little Faith?"

And he saith unto them, Why are ye fearful, O ye of little faith? Then he arose, and rebuked the winds and the sea; and there was a great calm.”
(Matthew 8:26)

It’s not normal not to have fear, and it’s abnormal to always have fear. Worry leads to fear; but faith cast away fear. Matthew Henry wrote; “It intimates how pleasing it is to Christ, and of how much concern it is to ourselves, that we should live without carefulness. It is the repeated command of the Lord Jesus to his disciples, that they should not divide and pull in pieces their own minds with care about the world.” (The Bible Collections)

Jesus said; “25- Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment? (Matthew 6:25- 34)

Be Ready, Jesus is Coming Soon!

“But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry.” (I Timothy 4:5 KJV)

“Be ready, Jesus is coming soon!” Will I make it to heaven and be with Jesus? I have a kid’s song that I wrote few years ago, I hope you will like it, and be a blessing and a reminder to you.

“Jesus is coming soon, you must be ready, I don’t know when, may be today,
In John 14:1 to 3, Jesus has promised me He has prepared a place for me.
The Lord Jehovah, our blessed Savior, Who reigns in glory,
We must be ready. When Jesus comes we have no time to count from 1 to 3.
When Jesus comes, we have no time to read from A to Z,
The Christians will fly, up, up in the sky, hallelujah in the twinkling of an eye.
Jesus is coming soon, I’m always ready, I don’t know when,
may be today, first John chapter 3 verse two, Jesus has promised me,
When He comes again, I will be like Him.”

“13-Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Savior, Jesus Christ.” (Titus 2:13 KJV)

Sign of the Times

Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.” (Matthew 24:44 KJV)

In a fast changing world that we live in; we need to realize that we will all end up in the hand of God either by death or through His second coming. We can’t change weather and we can’t change His second coming; but we can change our belief in Him and our faith in His coming.

The Changes in the World's Weather; what it means to you...?
1- The Super Typhoon in the Philippines.
2- The Snow Storms and Extreme Cold Weather in Many Parts of the USA
3- The Snow in Some parts of Texas, USA.
4- Rains and Floods in the UK
5- The Heat Wave in Australia
6- The Long Dry Season in Sacramento, California
7- And the Other Changes in Weather That Were Not Publish or in the News.
It's one of the sign of the times. Jesus is coming very soon!

"Ye are Not Your Own"

“15- Know ye not that your bodies are the members of Christ? shall I then take the members of Christ, and make them the members of an harlot? God forbid.” (I Corinthians 6:15 KJV)

Apostle Paul reminded the believers during his times similar to what he wrote to the church in Corinth, he said; “Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto his glorious body, according to the working whereby he is able even to subdue all things unto himself.” (Philippians 3:21) The Lord Jesus Christ honored our whole being by giving His life for us. We must not abuse our bodies by sin, and make our bodies look vile, and stained by our daily habitual sins that displease our Lord. Instead, we should make a vessel that honors our Lord. The day we came to Christ for cleansing through His shed blood on the cross of Calvary, Jesus made a union with us through His Holy Spirit and made us one, one in Him.

“19- What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? 20- For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.” (I Corinthians 6:19- 20 KJV)

God Giveth Grace to the Humble

“5- Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble. 6- Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:” (I Peter 5:5- 6)

If Christians will have this kind of attitude towards our fellow believers; we would not have to deal with problems in our churches such as envy, jealousy and divisions. Oftentimes we talk about the Word of God but live differently from its truth. We must have the same mind set, the same biblical standard, and the same Lord. You may walk in the path of the kings, and dignitaries; but don’t forget to live in humility. Take the words of Apostle Paul from the book of Romans:

"15- Rejoice with them that do rejoice, and weep with them that weep. 16- Be of the same mind one toward another. Mind not high things, but condescend to men of low estate. Be not wise in your own conceits." (Romans 12:15, 16 KJV)

Keeping the Positive Attitude in Trials of Life

“12- Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you: 13- But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ's sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy.” (I Peter 4:12- 13 KJV)

We need to exercise positive attitude in a negative environment, and negative altitude.  Job made it possible to have a positive attitude in spite of the negative people around him, in spite of negative circumstances, and the negative things that happened in his life. Job the man of God who fear the Lord his God. "20- Then Job arose, and rent his mantle, and shaved his head, and fell down upon the ground, and worshipped, 21-And said, Naked came I out of my mother's womb, and naked shall I return thither: the Lord gave, and the Lord hath taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord. 22- In all this Job sinned not, nor charged God foolishly." (Job 1:20-22 KJV)

Jesus is Our Main Focus

"Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, 14- I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus." (Philippians 3:13- 14 KJV)

People are looking at us, we have burdens to carry, there are hindrances on the way, and we need to run the race. Jesus must be our main focus and purpose- to honor and glorify Him. "1- Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, 2- Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God." “13-Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, 14- I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. 15- Let us therefore, as many as be perfect, be thus minded: and if in anything ye be otherwise minded, God shall reveal even this unto you. 16- Nevertheless, whereto we have already attained, let us walk by the same rule, let us mind the same thing.” (Philippians 3:13-16 KJV)

1- Learn from Your Past…
“He who does not learn from history will repeat the same…” Verses 13 and 14- “Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, 14- I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.”

2- Forget About Your Past…
Your past may have been full of failures, heartache, hurt, hopelessness. Don’t live on your past, look forward, stay focus and maintain your momentum. Verse 14- “I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.”

3- Know Your Present Standing and Condition.
You must know your financial, spiritual, physical, emotional, and to others could be mental conditions. Don’t live in denial and excuses. Verses 15 and 16- “Let us therefore, as many as be perfect, be thus minded: and if in anything ye be otherwise minded, God shall reveal even this unto you. 16- Nevertheless, whereto we have already attained, let us walk by the same rule, let us mind the same thing.”

4- Know Your Goal
What do you really want to accomplish this year and in the future. Do you have a short term or long term goals? (Verses 12- 14) “12- Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus. 13- Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do,
forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, 14- I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.” (KJV)

5- Be Determined to Accomplish or Reach Your Goal.
It may not be easy but; the principles “No Pain, No Gain” is true. It’s true indeed, if you don’t have any patience in anything you do, you will never gain, not a step higher to the next level. “12- Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus. 13- Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, 14- I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 3: 12-14 KJV)

6- Let God Leads You
“1- The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. 2- He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters.” (Psalms 23:1- 2 KJV)

7- Don't Forget God as You Prosper and Succeed

(Joshua 1:8; 13) “8- This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success. 13- Remember the word which Moses the servant of the LORD commanded you, saying, The LORD your God hath given you rest, and hath given you this land.”

King Solomon's Desire and Prayer

As for King Solomon, he has a different story. His desire and prayer requests were so different from other kings, prophets and servants of God including the rulers and soldiers of God.

In (II Chronicles 1: 7- 12) 7- “In that night did God appear unto Solomon, and said unto him, Ask what I shall give thee. 8- And Solomon said unto God, Thou hast showed great mercy unto David my father, and hast made me to reign in his stead. 9- Now, O LORD God, let thy promise unto David my father be established: for thou hast made me king over a people like the dust of the earth in multitude. 10- Give me now wisdom and knowledge, that I may go out and come in before this people: for who can judge this thy people, that is so great? 11- And God said to Solomon, Because this was in thine heart, and thou hast not asked riches, wealth, or honour, nor the life of thine enemies, neither yet hast asked long life; but hast asked wisdom and knowledge for thyself, that thou mayest judge my people, over whom I have made thee king: 12- Wisdom and knowledge is granted unto thee; and I will give thee riches, and wealth, and honour, such as none of the kings have had that have been before thee, neither shall there any after thee have the like.”
