“27- But straightway Jesus spake unto
them, saying, Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid. 28- And Peter answered
him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water. 29- And
he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the
water, to go to Jesus.” (Matthew
14:27- 29 KJV)
When Peter stepped out of the boat in
spite of fear, he did it by faith. It must be something a fearful Christian
should ask from day to day. “Am I safe in the boat without Jesus with me?” “Is
it God’s will for me to remain in the ship with my fear or to be out of the
boat with Jesus?” Imagine the ship with you in the midst of the sea, and it’s
tossed with waves and a great wind which makes the sail more complicated and
dangerous. No one in his or her right mind would think of getting off the boat
just to be with their boss, master, teacher, friends or love ones. I don’t know
what was in the mind of Peter, but he did the right thing, because he was going
to where the Master of the sea standing and waiting for them to come. Peter
took the risks of getting out of his boat.
And after Peter experienced the storm and the waves;
he did something very significant, and he tried something that no man had ever
done or asked from God from the time of Adam and Eve up to this present time.
It was when he decided to get off his boat and do something different. Peter’s
focus was beyond what he can see… He did not wait for Christ to come to the
ship; he stepped out of his ship and asked Christ if he could come to him.
Sometimes, we need to step out of our ship and do something significant for
God, for our family or our church. We need to get out of our comfort zone.
After they heard the comfort and the assurance and the Words of the Lord Jesus
Christ, Peter did not remain in the ship; he asked Jesus if he could come to
him. Verse 29 “…And Jesus said, “Come…”
