Wisdom of the Day from Mi Daily Devotion
"My son, if thou be surety for thy friend, if thou hast stricken thy hand with a stranger," (Proverbs 6:1 KJV)
"Surety" or "Security" are the words commonly used by businesses or business centered persons. It's the word some people may meant protection or prevention. When you are secured, you are peaceful because you felt secure of any negative circumstances that may come your way, and you will have the assurance of the future. To others it means insurance. You don't give away that protection, way of prevention or security to a friend no matter what the situation they may go through. You keep it.
The writer is reminding us of the uncontrolled effect of suretyship. If you take the position to be "surety for thy friend/s"; you are taking the risks, and you (at the same time) are opening up your dignity and integrity to any blot and dirt. Therefore caution and God's direction and will must be on the way first and foremost before you take that route of uncertainty in behalf of others; in the name of "surety".- By Ely Roque Sagansay
