Word of Wisdom from Mi Daily Devotion

Proverbs 15:1 KJV
"A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger."

What is the meaning of grievous in modern terminology? The word "Grievous" is an old English word which means harsh in the NIV Bible translation. Be not harsh in your words when someone is on the top of anger! According to Merriam-Webster.com- Dictionary - "Grievous" means "causing or characterized by severe pain, suffering, or sorrow <a grievous wound> <a grievousloss>". One may think that to answer an angry person with grievous words will pacify its anger by imposing fear. A grave threat will not make an angry soul slow down and set low his or her anger, nor will it make him or her cease from expressing rage. Therefore, it's wiser to count from 1 to 10 in your mind before you drop your first word with anger. - By Ely Roque Sagansay
