“6- And the land was not
able to bear them, that they might dwell together: for their substance was
great, so that they could not dwell together. 7- And there was a strife between
the herdmen of Abram's cattle and the herdmen of Lot's cattle: and the
Canaanite and the Perizzite dwelled then in the land. 8- And Abram said unto
Lot, Let there be no strife, I pray thee, between me and thee, and between my
herdmen and thy herdmen; for we be brethren.” (Genesis 13:6- 8 KJV)
Leadership conflict was common during the Old
Testament times as it is today in many churches, organizations or ministries. The
common caused in leadership conflict are pride, arrogance, jealousy and envy. It
was true to King Saul and David. King Saul was chasing David for years due to
envy, jealousy, and insecurity. The conflict between Abraham and Lot was so
intense that they have to separate their ways. It was obvious that the spirit
that flows through their lives and their servants lives were different. It’s so
ironic that they were God’s children and next door neighbors, they were related,
and yet they submitted themselves to such conflict. Sin is the only reason why
we have problems and conflict in Christian community, in some homes and countries
as well.
Apostle Peter wrote; “8-
Finally, be ye all of one mind, having compassion one of another, love as
brethren, be pitiful, be courteous: 9- Not rendering evil for evil, or railing
for railing: but contrariwise blessing; knowing that ye are thereunto called,
that ye should inherit a blessing.” (I Peter 3:8- 9 KJV)
