“11- Then Lot chose him all the plain of
Jordan; and Lot journeyed east: and they separated themselves the one from the
other.” (Genesis 13:11 KJV)
Abraham and Lot’s problems were problems
that can be resolved by separation or segregation, and by simply show some respect
to each other. Abraham learned to apply prevention by confronting the issues
between them. Abraham made the right decision, good judgment and did exactly
what was right and fair. He did not let their little issues go unresolved. He
resolved the issues before it went from bad to worst. You can’t just let go of
the problem, let go of sin without taking any step- the right step forward. He
asked Lot; “9- Is not the whole land before thee? separate thyself, I pray
thee, from me: if thou wilt take the left hand, then I will go to the right; or
if thou depart to the right hand, then I will go to the left.”
We can see the humility in Abraham’s
decision in spite of his power, prosperity and wealth. He has authority over
Lot, but Abraham did not use his authority, and power over him to solve conflict
between them and their herdsmen. There are those who are humbled by the Lord
through the success that God has given them, and the blessings of prosperity. Abraham’s
secret of humility is in looking back from where God picked him up and in his prayer
life. Verses 3 and 4; “3- And he went on his journeys from the south even to Bethel,
unto the place where his tent had been at the beginning, between Bethel and
Hai; 4- Unto the place of the altar, which he had made there at the first: and
there Abram called on the name of the LORD.” (KJV)
