“For all things are for your sakes,
that the abundant grace might through the thanksgiving of many redound to the glory of God.”
(II Corinthians 4:15 KJV)
I
was in Manila, Philippines for a mission trip with my wife. Our host, Rev. and
Mrs. Benny Bernal was so gracious and generous to always take us out for the
whole day, for meals. One morning pastor Bernal took us to a popular fast food
restaurant in Manila. As we were waiting for our orders; I observed that the
security guard who welcomes the customers and guests of the restaurant was so
busy welcoming, opening and closing the door for the customers who come and go.
But what actually caught my attention was his some kind of a scripted phrase.
Watching him saying
the same thing to different kinds of people compels me to come near him and
asked him this question; “How many times did you say ‘Thank You’ to people the
whole time you’re here during your shift?” He said; “It’s between five hundred
to one thousand times, and it depends if we're slow or doing well; but on
holidays and pay days, it means more ‘Thank you’ to say during the day.” I ask
him if he really mean it when he said; “Welcome... and thank you to the
customers”. He answered with confidence; “Yes sir, because we were taught to
mean it because people will know it if I don't really mean it.” The security
guard added; “Sir, the customers are smart and they can tell by your voice or
gestures if you don't mean what you say”. That could be a good lesson to learn;
you always say “Thank you” and mean it!
"Be careful for nothing; but in every
thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made
known unto God." (Philippians 4:6 KJV)
